A Message to an Owner - Why Tim?
Hello! And thank you for taking the time...
I find that profiles or resumes often do not tell the story about the person behind the resume, so I wanted to share something about me.
My name is Tim Acker. I am an experienced executive, entrepreneur, and investor in recovery from a life of venture capital, private equity, and Fortune 500 companies. And while I say that a bit tongue and cheek, it is a quite serious and important part of my background and my purpose for buying a company.
I have worked for and alongside many talented and dedicated people on teams and in amazing enterprises over my career. Years of building technology, distribution, and manufacturing companies have blessed me and my family with an extraordinary life for which I am truly grateful.
However, in recent years, I have come to realize that my best work and life is achieved when:
I am building something as an entrepreneur with personal skin in the game;
I can influence teams and individuals to achieve remarkable things in both their personal and professional lives;
I see an opportunity to build on a great product, service or legacy to benefit those committed to it and the community around it.
Put very simply, business ownership and entrepreneurship are where I thrive and am looking to build something new.
As a business owner, you have a number of choices ahead of you. Not the least of which is finding someone to take what you have built - honor your legacy, value your people, and commit to the success of your business' future. But I get it - putting the most cash possible in your pocket from the big risks, sleepless nights, and many sacrifices you have made is at the top of your list.
You may have the option of selling to a "strategic buyer." I have been on their side of that table and could always offer more consideration to an owner because I was using other people's money. And, as strategic buyer, my mandate was always to find cost savings and "synergies." I have seen firsthand that most strategic acquisitions do not work and end poorly for employees, owners, and often - the acquirer.
I am not a "strategic buyer" rather a real, individual person. Yet a strategic and proven operator, with big plans and a clear vision. My company, Acknowledge Capital, was formed to find a great company to acquire. I am a self-funded searcher with a small group of investors I know personally. I have a track record of building and scaling businesses and I would like to do the same with yours.
All the best to you,
Tim Acker
